3G, 4G internet services resume

Users are reporting that their internet services have resumed

Update : 05 Aug 2018, 07:39 PM

After almost 24 hours of suspension, high speed 3G and 4G mobile internet services have resumed.

Around 7pm on Sunday, mobile internet users began to get 3G and 4G internet service on their devices again.

The internet services were shut down on Saturday evening hours after violent clashes between students and alleged ruling party activists left several people injured in Dhaka’s Jigatala on Saturday afternoon.

The move apparently came in a bid to quell rumours swirling on the social media about the ongoing student protests for safe roads.

While on Saturday the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) told a newspaper that they had ordered the shutdown, on Sunday it said this was due to technical errors.

As the telecom regulator did not give any directive for extending the ban, the operators restarted the internet services from on Sunday evening.

The mobile phone operators also started making formal announcements about resuming of internet services later at night.
