Making Gel Candles

One can make personalised gel candles that would exude the beauty of light. These transparent candles may be given as gifts or used for decorative purposes.

Supplies:

Glass jar

Gel wax

Candle wick

Glue Gun

Food color

Embeds such as colored aquarium gravel, marbles, glitter, sand, sea shells, pebbles, crystals, polished stones, artificial jewels or pearls

All these materials can be found at Old Dhaka in any candle supplies retailer stores.

Step 1:

Take a glass jar and trim the candle wick about four inches or more. Make sure that the wick extends the glass jar.

Step 2:

Drib a spot of hot glue at the bottom of the jar, then place the candle wick onto the glue and roll the wick around a pencil. It is suggested to use zinc core wick. Cotton will absorb too much gel.

Step 3:

Cut the gel wax into small cubes and melt it in a stainless steel bowl in 200°F. The gel will melt as syrup.

Step 4:

One may prefer to add 1/4 teaspoon of essential oil or candle scent to the melted gel.

Step 5:

Check the gel. If it's cloudy, try melting a couple more cubes of gel in it. If one wants bubble in the gel cool the gel to 75°Fbefore pouring.

Step 6:

Add color dye to the melted gel. To make embeds more visible, it is wise to use little color.

Step 7:

Use non-flammable objects to embed and arrange it in the jar. Pour the melted wax into the jar. One may drop embeds in the jar after cooling the gel, which will slowly sink.

Step 8:

Straighten the wick and put it in the center. The gel candle will take four hours to set.
