Factory owners, municipal engineers remanded

A Dhaka court today placed two of the owners of the garment factories that were located in the ill-fated Rana Plaza on 12 days remand. The court also ordered eight days remand for two engineers of Savar municipality.

The four men are accused in two separate cases filed against them following the collapse of the commercial building that has claimed the lives of 340 people so far.

Mahbubur Rahman Tapas owns New Wave Bottoms and Bazlul Samad Adnan New Wave Style, two of the five ready-made garments (RMG) factories. The engineers of Savar municipality arrested are executive engineer Entemum Hossain and his colleague Mohammd Alam Miah.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Tajul Islam ordered their remand when they were produced before the court around 5:45pm. Law enforcers sought 14 days remand for the men, in relation to the cases.
