Lankan youths clinch series

Update : 29 Apr 2013, 05:18 PM

Hosts Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team failed to capitalise on a glorious opportunity as they went down by 62 runs against their Sri Lankan counterparts in the fifth and final ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday. The victory saw the visitors bounce back from a 2-1 deficit to wrap-up the five-match series 3-2. Skipper Mosaddek Hossain’s decision to field first paid huge dividend to the home side as right-arm pacer Rifat Pradhan struck thrice in as many overs to push the visitors to back foot. A 50-run fourth wicket partnership between Minod Bhanuka (37) and Dinuk Wickramanayaka (32) brought the visitors out of danger, but runs were still hard to come by as the home side bowlers fielded excellently to dry up easy runs. Coming in at number six, Roshan Anurudha made 50 but lack of contribution from other batsmen saw Sri Lanka getting bowled out for 185 runs in 49 overs. It was a relatively easier target for the hosts, but fall of wickets in regular intervals saw them getting bundled out for a paltry 123 runs. Mehedy Hasan showed some resistance scoring 37 runs while the majority was not able to go past 15 runs. Ramesh Mendis claimed three wickets while Binura Fernando took two wickets for the victors.
