Energypac to get 11 substations works

The Government is likely to award Energypac, a leading power engineering company in Bangladesh, works of constructing and renovating 11 sub-stations to increase power supply to those urban areas.

Energypac was the lone company which had submitted the tender papers, though two more companies bought tender papers, said a senior official in Power Division.

As Power Division had no other options, it had to award the work to Energypac at Tk650m cost, which is Tk30m more than its estimate.

“Energypac was the lone bidder. We had to give them the work at Tk650m, although our estimated cost was Tk620m,” said Monowar Islam, secretary of Power Division.

The areas where the project will be implemented include Cox’s Bazar’s Kalatali, Chittagong’s Hathazari, Brahmanharia, Sarail Biswa Road, Feni’s Sultanpur, Comilla’s three areas, Khagrachhari, Dighinala and Salkania.

Under the “Emergency Rehabilitation & Expansion of Urban Areas Power Distribution System” of Bangladesh Power Development Board, Chittagong, the works will be implemented.

A proposal from Power Division to improve power supply to urban areas is set be placed before cabinet committee at today’s meeting.

The private firm Energypac Engineering Company implemented a total of 88 power stations development projects-  45 in public sector and 43 in private sector.

Ever since Energypac started its venture in 1982, it has grown to become the largest Power Engineering Company in Bangladesh and is in fact emerging as a first choice global supplier of electrical equipment.

Being the first ever local company, Energypac had been awarded with EPC (Engineering, Procurement & construction) contract by BPDB for setting up two HFO (Heavy Furnace Oil) fired power plants (100 MW in Gopalganj & 50 MW in Faridpur) through international bidding.

In an effort to introduce its products globally, Energypac has established its offices in India, and China. Energypac has already experienced its products and service supply to India, Yemen, Ghana, Uganda,Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and United Kingdom, said the company sources.
