Find a solution

Find a solution

Both the ruling and opposition party in the country seem to be taking every step they can to avoid actually coming to a solution. This needs to stop now. The country can no longer afford this political game that may benefit the parties, but hangs the rest of the country out to dry.

So far the excuses have been numerous and creative, unlike any solutions offered for this apparent political impasse. The most recent among these excuses was the verdict put forth on the 13th amendment. In this editorial, we will not deal with the verdict itself or discuss the pros and cons of it.

Instead, we will point out that the political parties are now trying to use the verdict to push forth their own political agendas. While this should not, and does not, surprise us, it is certainly disheartening that the political parties are clutching at straws instead of sitting down and finding a solution.

As we see things, there are multiple options that the political parties can agree upon to conduct elections. We understand that some of those options may not be acceptable to both parties, but we refuse to believe that no options exist that would be amenable to both sides.

The only thing lacking at this point in time is the political will required to find this much-needed solution. Why this is the case, we cannot say for sure.

What we can say is, from the outside, it seems that both the ruling party and the opposition believe that personal, political power is more important than a functioning democracy.
