Young man beaten to death

A young man was beaten to death and two others were injured critically at Sonabo village under Sreepur upazila in Gazipur on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Shajahan, 30, and the two men injured as Selim, 25, and his older brother Billal Hossain, 28.

Locals said a rival group attacked the three men around 11.30am. Damaging a motorcycle the three were riding, and killing Shajahan on the spot.

Selim and his brother Billal were injured. The latter managed to flee and inform the police, who rescued Selim from the spot.

Shajahan’s father Abul Kalam said differences existed between the two groups of men in the area over business related issues.

According to him, the alleged attackers are Alamgir Hossain, Hiron Mia, Zaman, Babul and Nurul Haque of the same village.

Amir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur police station said Shajahan’s body was sent to the morgue in Gazipur sadar hospital for post mortem, and Selim was admitted to Sreepur upazila health complex.

The OC said the deceased and the injured man are alleged to have several cases against them, including for murder.
