Update : 06 Jun 2013, 06:50 AM

Jaago Foundation celebrated world environment day on Wednesday by organising tree planting programmes in 12 districts including Dhaka and Chittagong.

The foundation distributed trees among 100 selected educational institutions in the districts and sent 1000 seedlings to corporations.

Volunteers of the organisation distributed World Environment day flyers, door hangers, and bookmarks to the general public, educational institutes and to corporations in an attempt to create awareness.

Jaago Foundation organised the programme along with Coca Cola Bangladesh, Islamic Relief Bangladesh and the National Human Rights Commission.

Their slogan for this year’s celebration was: “Respect Environment, Respect Human Rights.”

Debasish Deb, country manager, Bangladesh, Coca-Cola Far East Limited, said their company developed various local and international partnerships across the world to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions.

Shabel Firuz, country director, Islamic Relief Foundation, said they would like to request all to respect the environment and human rights in order to leave a healthy environment for the next generation.

Korvi Rakshand, president and founder of Jaago Foundation said: “Before the environmental hazards begin to pose a severe threat to our basic needs and human rights, we must take action. And it must be the youth, the future leaders, who must understand this.”

Korvi added that the event was a humble endeavour to engage the youth to take responsibility of their future.
