A 10-man Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club pulled out a 1-1 draw against Team BJMC in the last group stage match of the Grameenphone Super Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium Wednesday.
The insignificant match was, however, nothing more than the consolation for both the teams as Mohammedan and Brothers confirmed the semis from the group B and Jamal and BJMC had no chances of progressing further.
The first-half was nothing more than the usual down to the flank runs and the occasional bursts through the midfield. The patchy pitch also did not suit the footballers’ aspirations of a running game. BJMC forward Toklis was denied by Jamal goalie Riaydh and BJMC goalie Himel denied Jamal forward Sohel Rana in the first quarter of the game.
But Jamal goalie Riyadh’s sent off due to a foul on Toklis halted the proceedings for a while till Shakil took position under the bar at the cost of midfielder Masud Rana. Much to the dismay of BJMC tent Toklis missed the penalty.
Tawhidul Alam Sobuj put Jamal ahead in the 52nd minute finishing with a cool headed placing shot past Himel after Shahed provided a through pass.
However, Mehedi Hasan Topu equalised in the 61st minute with a volley after Abdullah Parvez’s free kick scooped in the air off the forehead of Toklis before Topu volleyed it home. Jamal finished the campaign with two points while BJMC earned one point.
