Jamaat violence 500 sued in 2 cases

A total of 500 men including the Chittagong City Corporation ward councilor and the city unit Shibir president were indicted yesterday in two cases over the Ja-maat-Shibir violence in the port city on Sunday.

Mitu Das, assistant sub-inspector of Panchlaish police station, lodged the cases mentioning 34 named and 500 unnamed persons.

Jamaat-backed Chittagong City Corporation ward 8 councillor Shamsuzzaman Helali and city unit Shibir president Masrur Hossain were among those named on the list of accused.

The charges against the accused include attack on police and violence in the city, said Shah Mohammad Abdur Rouf, assistant commissioner of Panchlaish zone of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.

Three policemen and a newsman were injured in Jamaat-Shibir attack in the port city’s Badurtola area Sunday morning.

Seven vehicles, plus a police van were vandalised while at least 15 cocktails were blasted by the protesters during the violence.
