Illegal saline factory busted, 2 held

Authorities have busted another illegal factory producing oral saline at Old Dhaka in the capital. Two people have been detained from the spot.

A mobile court and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), raided the factory located beside the Mitford Hospital in Babubazar area on Thursday morning.

“A huge quantity of saline has been seized. Two, including owner Obaidur Rahman Polash, have been detained,” Executive Magistrate Anwar Pasha said.

The unit did not have registration or approval from concerned authorities for saline manufacture, he added. Neither did the unit have required machineries.

The illegally manufactured salines were being marketed using the label of ICDDRB, the magistrate said. Such drives will continue in the future.

Earlier on February 20, a fake saline factory was busted in Mohammadpur area. The unit was sealed off and the owner jailed for two years.

Oral saline is in demand at the market currently, with diseases related to the season affecting many people at this time of the year.
