The government has launched train service on Faridpur-Pachuria section after 16 years aimed at giving better train service to the common people of the area.
"We are committed to improve train services across the country and the Awami League government has already taken various projects to improve its services," Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the newly rehabilitated rail line, as the chief guest, he said residents of Rajbari and Faridpur would be able to transport their goods on the train easily.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken realistic projects to establish the Bangladesh Railway as a mode of public transport," Mosharraf said.
Speaking at the opening programme yesterday, Railway Minister M Mazibul Hoque said a vested quarter hatched conspiracies to destroy the Bangladesh Railway (BR) and the BNP government intentionally destroyed the BR and shrank its network.
"The present government has taken many development projects to improve BR for giving better service to the people" he said.
Chaired by railway secretary Abul Kalam Azad, the opening ceremony was also addressed, among others, by woman lawmaker Quamrunnahar Laily, Director General of BR Tafazzal Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Rajbari Rafiqul Islam and Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur Sardar Sarafat Ali.
