Major General Jahangir Hossain Mollik, director general of Directorate General of Drug Administration said war should be declared against drug adulteration.
He said: “We have to declare war against those who are involved in drug adulteration. We also have to create awareness among people against such crimes and wage movement against manufacturing and marketing of fake medicines.”
He made the call while addressing a seminar on “Present and Future of Bangladesh Community Pharmacy” jointly organised by Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Society (BPS) and Bangladesh Chemist and Druggist Samity (BCDS) at Rawa Convention Hall in the capital on Saturday.
Maj Gen Mollik said: “Ensuring quality health service is impossible without availability of medicines as it is one of the basic requirements of people.”
“We will soon issue letters to doctors across the country, seeking their assistance in stopping the marketing of fake drug.”
The DG urged the countrymen to extend necessary support in this regard.
Among others, President of Commonwealth Pharmacist Association Raymond Anderson and Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Society (BPS) President Naser Shahriar Jahidi, spoke in the event.
