Japan promises football friendlies in Dhaka, Bangladesh to tour Japan in return

Japan Football Association vice president and executive secretary general Tashima Kohzo in his Asian Football Confederation election campaign promised to field Japanese national teams in international friendlies in Dhaka. Kohzo, who made seven appearances for Japan in the late 1970s and early 80s, arrived in the capital yesterday and met Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin as part of his campaign.

Kohzo announced his intention to run for a seat from the AFC in the Fifa executive committee. Kohzo, alongside Chung Mong-gyu (president of the South Korean federation), Worawi Makudi (head of the Football Association of Thailand), Tengku Abdullah (president of the Football Association of Malaysia) and Saud al Mohannadi (vice president of the Qatar Football Association) are vying for three “ordinary” AFC seats in the Fifa Ex-Co. The election will take place in Bahrain on April 30.

Following the meeting, BFF president Salahuddin said, “We are involved in long discussions. We want to continue our relationship. As part of this relationship, they sent their national youth team and provided me a woman coach for our national women’s side.

“Now, we are discussing about how we can arrange exchange tours of our national teams. We told them that we want to use their academies to train our players.

“I also requested him to suggest us or provide us coaches for our Sylhet Academy. Discussions are at a final stage. They have already started working with us.”

Kohzo expressed his delight with the blossoming partnership between the two nations in the sports sector. “We have good co-operation and have already sent our national under-22 olympics team. We have also sent a woman football coach. We want to continue the process,” said Kohzo.

“Of course, we hope in future we will play international matches here; our national teams, age-group teams, u-18, 16, 20, 22. We will visit Bangladesh and Bangladesh will also visit Japan.

“We are ready to provide all kinds of assistance,” he added.
