The two Awami League-backed Dhaka City Corporation mayoral election candidates, Saeed Khokon of South and Annisul Haque of North, yesterday pledged to make Dhaka more sports friendly provided they win their respective elections.
The young Khokon and the experienced Annisul expressed their pledges in an exchange view programme organised by the Combined Sports Family at the National Sports Council auditorium yesterday. Hundreds of sportspersons, federation officials, national award winners and organisers were present on the occasion.
Khokon commemorated his father’s passion for sports. “My father was the first elected mayor of Dhaka and he was a former president of Bangladesh Football Federation. I am aware of the fact that many city corporation-owned sports grounds are occupied by others and many are out of use. I will do my best to ensure a sports-friendly Dhaka,” said Khokon.
Annisul on the other hand said he has already identified the problems. “I have a vision of improving the overall infrastructure of Dhaka North and sports is very much on the list. I am talking with the people about the problems and how to improve. If I am elected, I will deploy all my possible efforts to improve the sports arena,” said Annisul.
