Josephites defeated Notre Dame 58-40 in a crucial tie of the Noushir Hasan Basketball Tournament, organised by St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in the honour of Noushir Hasan, the forgotten basketball hero of the country, yesterday.
The eight-day event started at the school premises last Friday.
A total of 10 schools - St. Joseph (red), Delhi Public School, Sunnydale, Baridhara Scholar’s Institution, Dhanmondi Tutorial, St. Joseph (blue), SFX Green Herald International School, Summerfield International School, Bangladesh International School and Scholastica School - are participating in the junior category while St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Notre Dame College, Bangladesh International School, Dhaka Residential Model College, Dhanmondi Tutorial, Dhaka Commerce College, Summerfield International School and Aga Khan School took part in the senior category.
Olympic Industries was the title sponsor of the event while Ispahani was the co-sponsor.
Noushir, who was a first-batch graduate student of the school in 1963, played for the East Pakistan basketball team and was also a first-choice player of the Pakistan team before the liberation war. Currently living in the United States, the basketball hero is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka this Friday.
