Police stop Moncho’s coffin procession

Update : 05 Nov 2015, 07:26 PM

Law enforcers yesterday stopped a coffin procession by Gonojagoron Moncho, brought out to protest the killings of bloggers-publishers, that was heading towards the Home Ministry.

After the procession was halted near the secretariat, leaders and activists of the platform staged a sit-in demanding the resignation of the home minister. Over a hundred people, including activists from several student organisations, had joined the procession that started from Shahbagh around noon.

Later, a five-member delegation led by Imran H Sarker, spokesperson of the platform, submitted a memorandum to the Home Ministry demanding trial for the killers.

Talking to journalists, Imran said the state would face dire consequences unless the government eliminated militancy and upheld its own pledge of showing zero-tolerance against militants.

“The militant attacks were not only against a specific group. These attacks were against the state and Bangladesh. The militants have declared war on Bangladesh,” said Imran.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal assured the delegation that the government would not tolerate militancy in the country and take necessary measures to arrest the killers of bloggers-publishers, Imran added.
