Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have been deployed in 680 union parishads ahead of Tuesday's elections.
BGB Public Relations Officer Mohosin Reza told the Dhaka Tribune that 240 platoons of BGB members were deployed in the union parishads to maintain law and order during the elections.
He said: "BGB personnel have been deployed in 680 unions so far. The number of union parishads might be increased."
Elections in 721 union parishads across the country are going to be held on Tuesday. This is the first time union polls will be held on party lines.
In the first phase of the elections, 36,456 candidates – 3,034 for chairman posts, 25,847 for member posts and 7,575 for reserved-seat women posts - will compete.
A total of 11,940,741 voters will vote in 7,087 polling stations.
