The North Korean government has withdrawn its diplomat as he was found guilty of importing cigarette and electrical goods illegally in Bangladesh.
The diplomat left the country Monday, said a senior government official.
The National Board of Revenue officials found a container with cigarette and electrical goods at Kamalapur inland container depot last month and it was imported illegally in the name of the North Korean diplomat.
The NBR informed the foreign ministry about the misdeed and the North Korean ambassador was summoned to the ministry and asked him to send back the diplomat, the official said.
This is the second time North Korean diplomat was asked to leave the country as in 2014 another Korean diplomat was found guilty of gold smuggling.
