“We have received the letter. It does not mention any specific reason but we have heard that the request was made due to limitation of space,” Law Secretary Abu Saleh Sk Md Zahirul Haque told the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
“It is a matter of the state. We have to talk to everyone concerned to make a decision.”
The tribunal was established in the Old High Court building on March 25, 2010.
The letter, issued on August 18 and singed by High Court Division's Registrar Abu Syed Diljar Hossain, said that due to lack of enough room at the Supreme Court, the authorities had been failing to provide necessary chambers and court rooms for the judges. Even the officials and staff of the Supreme Court's registrar's office are also not getting chambers or chairs.
To solve the problem, the letter said, it was important to get back the Old High Court building. It said that the chief justice and the law minister had already discussed the matter.
