
Bangladesh Police will apply to the Home Ministry to take due measures to ban militant outfit Ansar-Al-Islam, Monirul Islam, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has said.
He was talking to the journalists at DMP media centre in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Ansar-Al-Islam, an alleged Bangladesh chapter of al-Qaeda in the Indian Sub-Continent, worked before with another militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team, said the police official.
Later, some members of Ansarullah Bangla Team formed independent organisation Ansar-Al-Islam on September 2014, he added.
Monirul informed the journalists that the organisation has a chief but he declined to disclose the name for investigation purposes.
He, however, said that the terminated and fugitive Major Jia is the second man of the organisation.
On May 25, 2015, the government banned the Ansarullah Bangla Team for its militant and anti-state activities.
