Protesting the construction of a coal-based power plant at Rampal in the Sundarbans, activists of the National Committee to protect oil, gas and mineral resources, power and port began their 'March Towards Dhaka' from seven different points of the country on Thursday.
The marchers will congregate for a rally at Shaheed Minar premises in Dhaka on Saturday, amplifying their demand for the cancellation of the Rampal power plant.
Professor Anu Muhammad, the member secretary of the National Committee, said activists were walking from seven districts of the country - Rampal, Panchagarh, Netrokona, Patuakhali, Sunamganj, Cox’s Bazar and Kansat - and hoped that the government would allow safe passage of the march.
"If the government obstructs us the protesters will stage a sit-in demonstration wherever they are obstructed," he said.
