Eddie Redmayne, an Oscar-winning British actor, was sought after for the lead role in the movie. In fact, according to Timeout London, “he was the first and only choice to play magician Newt Scamander.”
Like Emma Watson, the 34-year-old actor is just as humble about his success and fame. In all of his interviews, he can’t seem to stop gushing about his love for the world of Fantastic Beasts and Newt.
“What I love about him is that he is absolutely his own person,” Eddie said to Timeout London. “As a consequence, he can be quite prickly. At the beginning of the film, he doesn’t care what people think of him. You see his heart through his relationship with his creatures. He’s also been damaged by relationships in the past.” That’s something the writer, J.K. Rowling and I, talked about – he has many qualities to him, that aren’t obviously heroic.
Unlike Emma, Eddie is coming into his role as an adult, not a child star. While there are rumors that Warner Bros. has multiple movies on the docket for the Fantastic Beasts franchise, Eddie will not have the opportunity to grow up in the movie like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.
However, he will enjoy more freedom in his career, having already won an Oscar for his performance in Theory of Everything. What’s more, he just had his first baby with his wife, Hannah Bagshawe.
