Abahani march on towards fifth title
Abahani Limited continued their confident march towards their fifth professional football league title as they outplayed Arambagh Krira Sangha 2-0 in the Bangladesh Premier League at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong on Monday. In-form Nigerian striker Sunday Chizoba netted in the either side of each half to give the Sky Blues a convincing five-point lead at the top of the 12-team table. Abahani still remained the only team in the league this season who are yet to lose a single match. Their supremacy under the guidance of Austro-Hungarian coach George Kottan has given every hope that they would end their five-year premier league drought. The four-time professional league title holders have been in sensational form ever since the beginning of the season, sealing the Federation Cup crown before finishing runners-up in the Independence Cup. They have carried on their form in the league as well, courtesy their unbeaten run. The Sky Blues have earned 39 points from 17 matches to remain at the top with only five more rounds to play. Their nearest rivals Chittagong Abahani are five points behind. In contrast, Arambagh remained at seventh place with 21 points from the same number of outings as Abahani. Sunday's goals in the 19th and 71st minute, thanks to assists from Hemanta Vincent Biswas for the first and the in-form English midfielder Lee Andrew Tuck for the other, cleared the path for the Nigerian to become the top-scorer in the league this season. He now has 18 goals to his name, four more than Brothers Union forward Nkowcha Kingsley. Meanwhile in the day's other match at the same venue, Mohammedan Sporting Club returned to winning ways after four winless matches when they defeated Brothers Union 2-0 to stay away from the relegation zone. Guinean striker Ismael Bangoura and Aminur Rahman Sajib netted one apiece in the opening half to help the Black and Whites move to ninth place with 17 points from as many games. Brothers remained at sixth with 22 points. RESULTS Abahani 2 (Sunday 19, 71) 0 Arambagh Mohammedan 2 (Bangoura 45+1, Sajib 47) 0 Brothers
