12 more Sundarbans-based robbers surrender

Twelve members of 'Khokababu Bahini' handed over 22 firearms and 1,303 bullets to the law enforcement agency at the surrender programme in Barisal on Monday. The robbers are – Kabirul Islam alias Khoka Babu (leader), Aminul Islam, Shahjahan Gazi, Abdul Aziz, Mizanur Rahman, Robiul Islam, Osman Gani, Rafikul Gazi, Yasin Ali Gazi, Mohidul Islam, Mojibor Rahman and Abul Kalam. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, RAB chief Benazir Ahmed, local ruling party MP and senior police officers were present at the programme at RAB-8 headquarters. Minister Kamal urged other robber gangs to follow suit, saying the government would ensure safety and security of the Sundarbans “at any cost”. “Those who assisted the robbers, financed them and provided them shelter will be identified and brought to book,” he said. The minister assured the robbers who laid down arms, of rehabilitation and reintegration into the community if they were not involved in any murder. RAB-8 spokesperson Maj Adnan said in the last six months, 60 members of seven Sundarbans-based robber gangs surrendered with 117 firearms and 6,528 bullets.
