Dhaka Attack on the big screen
After the release of the first teaser on July 26, Dipankar Dipon’s police action thriller, Dhaka Attack created quite a buzz among the local film-goers. Starring Arifin Shuvo and Mahiya Mahi, the film’s ambitious attempt at showcasing militancy and terrorism in Bangladesh was lauded by the audience. The second teaser of the film released after a month on Saturday, and is seemingly keeping the hype alive. Unlike the first one, the second teaser comes with the sounds of blazing guns while giving hints of a story full of tensions and twists. Since it’s release on Saturday, the teaser has received nearly a hundred thousand views on Youtube as of Sunday. Social media outlets were seen abuzz with discussion and anticipation for the film. Many praised the cinematography and editing of the scenes. Dhaka Attack, which is said to be the first cop-action thriller of Dhallywood, features a total 238 characters in the film. With Arifin Shuvo and Mahiya Mahi in the leading roles, Dhaka Attack boasts a heavyweight cast including Syed Hasan Imam, Alamgir, Afzal Hossain, Laila Hasan, ABM Suman, Shatabdi Wadud and Nawshaba, among others. Shuvo plays a daredevil cop with the bomb disposal unit in the film, while Mahi dons the role of a journalist. After a long hiatus, Afzal Hossain is returning to the silver screen with Dhaka Attack, playing the role of the Police Commissioner, while Shatabdi Wadud portrays another police high-up. To make the adrenaline-pumping story more realistic to the audience, the film also features a number of real life cops in the film. The creative team comprised of director Dipankar Dipon and writer Sunny Sanwar jam-packed the film with explosions, racing cars, and a small homage to Alan Moore’s Watchmen with a smiley button. Earlier, renowned director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has announced plans to make a film on the ramifications of the July attack. But it seems that has been beaten to the punch with the action film Dhaka Attack. The director claimed the film was of international standards as it used high-definition cameras that have never been used in Bangladeshi films. He also referred to the contribution of Indian singer Arijit Singh to the film’s soundtrack. Dhaka Attack is slated to be released on September 6.
