Case filed, accused sent to court
Police on Friday arrested a headmaster of a school for raping a student and videotaping the incident in Ramma upazila of Bandarban.
The arrestee, identified as Samar Kanti Dutta, 56, is the headmaster of Ramma Junior High School.
According to the survivor, she started taking private lessons at Samar’s house after failing her SSC exams in 2019.
“Many students, including me, have been sexually harassed by Samar on multiple occasions.”
On August 23, this year, when the other students started leaving Samar’s place after finishing their lectures, he told the survivor to stay back for some work.
At one point, when everyone had left, he raped the survivor and also recorded a video of his heinous act on his mobile phone.
He then used the video to blackmail the survivor. The parents of the survivor then filed a case with the Ruma police station after being informed about the incident.
According to sources, the accused used to lure female students by offering them passing marks in the exams among other things. He then used to demand force students in sexual activities. But most of the students to scared to anything.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Jing Eng Moy Bom, acting chairman of the school's governing body, said: "I have heard about the irregularities regarding Samar. However, none of the students dared to speak up.”
Contacted, Ramma police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abul Kashem Chowdhury, said: “The survivor and her family filed a case against the headmaster on Friday. Samar was arrested on the same day. He was sent to the court on Saturday.
“Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation.”
