Update : 21 Jun 2017, 10:42 AM
An off-duty police officer who fought off the London Bridge attackers and suffered serious injuries, has been presented with an honourary WWE Championship belt. WWE superstar Paul “Triple H” Levesque presented PC Charlie Guenigault with the belt on Monday, the WWE said. Guenigault, 25, was out with friends on the night of June 3, when three terrorists drove their vans into the crowd and launched a knife attack that left eight people dead. The policeman was stabbed in the head, leg, back and stomach as he took on the attackers with bare hands to save the people. He received a surprise visit from Triple H, a 14-time WWE World Champion, after his release from hospital on Friday. The wrestler praised Guenigault for his immense bravery.“To run in the direction of a scary situation that can’t even be described in words, to help others, for that to be your instinct to help others – that is a hero," Triple H said as he presented the belt. “People say a lot of times that they watch WWE because these guys are like real-life superheroes. Well, Charlie is a real hero." Guenigault was wearing a t-shirt featuring his favourite wrestler Sami Zayn on the night of the attack. Triple H played a personal video message from Zayn who heaped praise on the policeman. “I can’t tell you how much respect I have for you,” Zayn said. The belt Triple H presented Guenigault read: 'To Charlie, thank you to a true hero!' Pictures and a video released by the WWE show a visibly emotional Guenigault. “It was an absolute pleasure to meet one of the greatest [WWE] superstars ever,” he said.
