A man was forced to carry the body of new-born baby in his arms after the hospital allegedly refused to provide ambulance in Odisha’s Malkangir district in India.

Laxan Bhumia, the father of the deceased said he had to walk three kilometres to their village Bhairav Colony with his son’s body as the hospital denied to provide an ambulance for such a near distance.
Laxan said: "My wife gave birth to a boy in the hospital but he was admitted in the ICU due to his serious condition.
“The next day the doctor told us that the infant has died.
“When we asked for an ambulance to go back to our home, we were denied saying it would not be provided for so near a distance."
"We were asked to take an auto but we did not have money to pay so we had to come back walking carrying the body," he added.
Laxan's wife was taken to the hospital in an ambulance when she was in labour. But unfortunately they did not get the ambulance on the way back home.
However, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Uday Shankar Mishra said: "Dead body carrier is available in the hospital, then why did he carry the body?
“I will inquire and find out the reason," CDMO Uday added.

This is not first incident in Odisha where a man had to walk home with a dead body after the hospital denied providing an ambulance. This incident took place after a series of similar saddening incidents over the years.
On January 4, another man was forced to walk 15 km carrying his five-year-old daughter, who died at the Palahada Community Health Centre (CHC) in Odisha’s Angul.
Similarly, a man named Dana Majhi walked for 12km carrying his wife’s body after the hospital where she died allegedly failed to provide an ambulance to carry the body back to their village.
This incident took place on August 23, 2016.
