Bangladeshi IS leader arrested in Afghanistan

Tanweer was playing a key role in organizing communications between ISIS Khurasan leaders in a confidential manner

The Afghan intelligence has arrested two senior leaders of the Islamic State, ISIS Khurasan, which included a Bangladeshi national.

“The National Directorate of Security (NDS) in a statement said the Afghan intelligence arrested Mohammad Tanweer having aliases (Omran, Ahmad and Nasir), who is originally a resident of Dhaka city of Bangladesh,” said a report published by the country’s Khaama Press News Agency on Sunday.

The report also quoted the statement as mentioning that Tanweer had been in charge of the Information Technology department of ISIS Khurasan, who was trained by Esa Panjabi, a resident of Punjab of Pakistan.

According to NDS, Tanweer was playing a key role in organizing communications between ISIS Khurasan leaders in a confidential manner.

The NDS forces also arrested Ali Mohammad, a senior ISIS Khurasan leader, who was in charge of the logistics affairs of the terror group.

The report also mentioned Ali Mohammad as originally a resident of Islamabad of Pakistan, and that he was playing a key role in coordinating foreign aid to support ISIS activities in Afghanistan.
