Beirut blast: Bangladeshi death toll rises to 5

Fifth deceased identified as Md Rashed from Narayanganj

The death toll of Bangladeshis in the Beirut blast has risen to 5, according to an official of the Bangladesh embassy in Lebanon.

The explosion in the Lebanese capital killed more than 200 people and injured thousands on August 4.

"Yes, we have lost another citizen of ours in the August 4 blast," Abdullah Al Mamun, first secretary (labour) and head of chancery of the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut, told Dhaka Tribune on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Md Rashed, 38, from Narayanganj.

The other four Bangladeshis, who were killed by the explosion are Mehedi Hasan and Rasel Miah from Brahmanbaria, Mizan from Madaripur, and Rezaul from Comilla

Besides, more than 100 Bangladeshis, including 21 members of the Bangladesh Navy, have been injured in the blast that rocked the Beirut port. The navy personnel were in a Bangladeshi ship deployed as part of a United Nations mission.
