Police opened fire in self-defence and arrested the accused after he was shot in the leg

Bengaluru police has shot one of the accused in an alleged assault and gangrape of a Bangladeshi woman when the suspect was trying to escape to avoid arrest, India media reported on Wednesday.

The incident comes days after two of his accomplices were shot at and injured by the city police during an escape attempt.

So far, 10 people have been arrested in connection with case, reports NDTV.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team went to arrest the accused kingpin Shahbaz, who attacked the law enforcers with a knife in an attempt to flee.

Police opened fire in self-defence and arrested the accused after he was shot in the leg.

Ahead constable also sustained injuries in the attack, police told the media. 

The accused was taken to the hospital for treatment.

On May 27, police in India’s Bengaluru arrested five Bangladeshis – four men and a woman – for allegedly raping and torturing a Bangladeshi woman.

On Wednesday, a Dhaka court placed four members of this gang, including its ringleader, which has trafficked a large number of young girls to India, on a five-day remand in a case.

The four accused are Ashraful Islam, alias Ashraful Mondal, alias Boss Rafi, the ringleader of the racket, and his three associates – Sahida Begum, alias Madam Sahida, Ismail Sarder, and Abdur Rahman Sheikh, alias Arman Sheikh.
