President Donald Trump on Thursday publicly acknowledged for the first time that he would leave office on January 20, promising a peaceful transfer of power after Congress certified Joe Biden as the next president of the US.
"Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th," Trump said in the statement, reports Newstalk ZB.
He continued: "I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it's only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again."

Trump on Wednesday had egged on his supporters who later stormed the Capitol Building in a bid to prevent lawmakers from counting electoral votes.
A least four people were killed and 52 others arrested after pro-Trump rioters breached the Capitol.
Members of Trump's Cabinet on Wednesday discussed the possibility of removing him from office after the riot, according to three US news channels, as reported by AFP.
Earlier, the United States Congress certified Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the next president and vice-president of the country.
The electoral votes were ratified after both the House of Representatives and the Senate rejected objections to the votes in the states of Arizona and Pennsylvania, reports BBC News.
