India's senior Congress leader and former Union minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi died at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Monday, The Indian Express reported. He was 72, and has been in a coma since 2008.
Dasmunsi was heading the All India Football Federation when he suffered a massive stroke in 2008 that left him paralysed. He was also the Union parliamentary affairs minister.
Blood supply to a part of his brain was cut off, causing irreversible damage. He breathed through a tracheostomy tube attached to his neck and was fed through a tube in his stomach. Though his basic life functions were stable, he was not conscious of his surroundings.
He is survived by his wife Deepa and son Priyadeep Dasmunsi.
