The police in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday detained eight Bangladeshi nationals accused of illegal entry in the country.
Four of them were caught by the Railway Protection Force near Rajamahendravaram, while the others by the Vijayawada municipal police while traveling aboard the Howrah-Vasco da Gama Express, according to media reports.
Following a recent parcel bomb explosion at Darbhanga railway station in Bihar, police were on high alert and intercepted the Bangladeshis on a tip-off, PTI reports citing unnamed sources.
During their inquiry, police found that the Bangladeshis had entered India illegally through a pipeline. They didn't have any official documents, such as passports, but they possessed false Aadhar cards (Unique identification number), PAN cards, and voter IDs with a Bengaluru address.
Police sources said that the Bangladeshis claimed they stayed in Goa from 2017 to 2019.
After the Covid-19 outbreak last year, they went back to their native country.
They returned to Goa in June this year.
“We have completed only a preliminary inquiry and a detailed investigation has begun,” North Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police Shanu Sheikh told PTI.
Along with the fake ID cards, police confiscated mobile phones from the detainees.
A case has been registered against them.
